For all wondering that is the incorrect way to land in a cross wind. In regular circumstances the plane would correct it's self to land straight on the runway, not at any angle. It looks like the pilot mis judged either the distance to runway or the intensity of the wind and had to make the quick landing lacking the speed to continue flight.

Boeing actually states you can land the aircraft in a crab. See page 14 of this slide: http://www.smartcockpit.com/data/pdfs/flightops/flyingtechnique/Crosswind_Guidelines.pdf

While I am not a pilot and have no flight training, it does seem like the pilot misjudged the angle of approach slightly, however he recovered relatively well considering the relatively small room for error.

The aircraft is landing on runway 13 on the now closed Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. Because of mountains a 47 degree visual right turn an short final was necessary. The IGS into Runway 13 at Kai Tak was always fun in good weather. But in the monsoon season (June-too soon. July- it'll try. August-a must. September-remember.October-it's over.)when the bad weather arrived it demanded total concentration. The winds were strong and swirling around the hills so that as you flew around the corner the drift would be changing and there was always turbulence. Rule 1 -when the aircraft gets blown off track (and it will!) make immediate corrections to get it back onto the correct track (which was marked by a curved lighting system).Rule 2- remember Rule 1! The video says a lot about the strength of a Boeing 747!
